It certainly goes without saying that you learn the most when you travel. From short tours to weekend getaways, treks to solo trips, every excursion unfolds a new world for you. While traveling is a sure-shot way to gain exposure, it isn’t always feasible for everyone, given the time and expenses involved. With work commitments, family life, and finances taken into account, here are some other wholesome experiences that offer a world of exposure for you to grow in spades.

  1. BOOKS

Reading books of any genre helps you think vividly, enhance creative thinking, and most importantly, give you a better understanding of yourself. If you find reading a tad difficult, pick up any book (e-books if you don’t want to buy) from your genre of choice and start by reading as little as 2–3 pages a day and then bring this process into daily practice. Trust me; you will travel in time, tucked in Razai.

2. PODCASTS

Podcasts are a great way to explore new ideas and learn from the gurus in a field. From Spotify to Gaana.com, YouTube to JioSaavan, and others, many platforms boast of a plethora of podcasts from artists globally. Self-help, love, relationships, career, finance, art. You name it, and there exists a podcast under the sky with expert guidance to walk you through life. P.S. — I often listen to podcasts while driving, taking a shower, and between work.

3. DEVELOP RESEARCH SKILLS

Read, research and rivet — this is the mantra to dig deep into any topic of your choice that will inadvertently open windows for you. With the digital world offering so much today, surf online, read blogs, consume stimulating content on YouTube and OTT platforms to widen your perspectives.

4. MOVE OUT FOR EDUCATION

Shifting away from the comfort of your home with the added pressure of your studies doubles up your responsibility, making you mature in mind. Between making your bed and adjusting with ‘paani wali Daal’, you learn to do life!

5. MOVE OUT, NONETHELESS

Defenestrate ‘Log Kya Kahenge’ and consider moving out of your parent’s home, even if you’re in the same city. Yes, I said it! It’s high time we normalized staying apart in our hometown to kick-start an individual life, guided by our own terms.

6. E-LEARNING

In this day and age, one needs to constantly upskill themselves for better work opportunities. While classroom learning has its own impact, many platforms like Udemy, Coursera, Unacademy, etc offer diploma and certificate courses in a myriad of fields like management, arts, business, languages, and so forth. With highly qualified mentors and state-of-the-art techniques, these courses are a great way to pick up new skills and hone the existing ones. The best part? Many of these courses are free of cost and offer a certificate too.

7. PUSH YOUR LIMITS

Start on the ground level and exit your comfort zone. Pursue a long-lost hobby, develop a new one, take a gym subscription or join a support group, given you need one. Here’s a new one — visit the co-working spaces near you and feel the energy of everyone around you working on different projects. There’s so much scope for learning at these places with you interacting with new people. Co-working spaces are perfect for freelancers, WFH professionals, and even those taking e-courses alike.
